While Orlando might signal Disney World to many, to a golfer it means proximity to some excellent public golf courses. Among the courses that are considered "must-plays" in the Orlando area, you will find:

Built in 1986, Hunter's Creek Golf Club's 18-hole course is considered one of the more enjoyable ones to play in Orlando. It is located just a short drive from the Walt Disney World Resort. It features well-placed bunkers as well as 13 lakes. It has been listed among Golf Digest's Top 75 Courses to Play. It also has been the location of US Open Qualifying rounds and other major events.

Highlands Reserve Golf Club gets its name from the fact that it is situated at one of the Sunshine State's highest points. Located about 40 minutes from Orlando, it features fast, undulating greens, and spectacular views. While there is no water on the course, it does feature multiple bunkers and a difficult 14th hole.

Famous for providing the best traditional links golf in Orlando, Royal St Cloud Golf Links closely resembles courses in Scotland. Expect an almost treeless course with all the challenges of classic links golf. Royal St Cloud Golf Links also offers a driving range and practice bunkers that will help visiting golfers to improve their short game. This course is located about 40 minutes north of downtown Orlando.

Eagle Creek Golf Club is about 25 minutes from downtown Orlando and is another course that will remind you of golfing in the British Isles. It has an open links-style design with rolling fairways and large, well-protected greens. The challenges you will face on this course include numerous bunkers along with multiple water hazards. In addition to the course, there is a driving range and a practice hole.

Consistently ranked one of the best courses in Florida, Timacuan Golf Club offers a unique design and back nine that is dramatically different to the front nine. Along with a rolling landscape (a rarity among Florida courses), you will have water hazards with which to contend. Located about 24 minutes from downtown Orlando, Timacuan Golf Course offers a driving range and putting green along with their signature 18-hole course.
