Winter Park Activities in Orlando: Fun for the Entire Family

Located slightly to the northeast of Orlando is the city of Winter Park, Florida. This quaint city is full of charm, the arts, entertainment, and outdoor options for you and your family. The city changed names several times before adopting the name of Winter Park around 1881. There's nothing cold about this vibrant city! Here are just a few options for exploring this gem located just 15 minutes from Orlando:

THE CHARLES HOSMER MORSE MUSEUM OF AMERICAN ART

This museum houses the world's most comprehensive collection of works by Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933). Exhibits include leaded-glass lamps, jewelry, and Tiffany's chapel interior from the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Art and architectural objects from his Long Island country estate, Laurelton Hall, are also on display. The Morse Museum is also home to American Art pottery and late 19th and early 20th century paintings and fine art.

ALBIN POLASEK MUSEUM AND SCULPTURE GARDENS

Visitors to the Albin Polasek Museum and Sculpture Gardens enjoy touring a historic home and three acres of gardens. The complex is the former home of Albin Polasek, a sculptor who immigrated to America in 1901 at the age of 22. From 1950 until his death in 1965, Polasek made several contributions to the Winter Park community. His sculpture gardens feature works of art created after he suffered a debilitating stroke that left him partially paralyzed. The Albin Polasek Museum and Sculpture Gardens is an interesting visit because of the inspiration and talent of Albin Polasek.

WINTER PARK PLAYHOUSE

The Winter Park Playhouse is Central Florida's only professional musical theatre. The playhouse produces year-round entertainment, including comedies in the theatre and cabaret-style performances in their lobby bar. Enjoy live theatre at its best by taking in a show at the Winter Park Playhouse.

THE HOWELL BRANCH PRESERVE PLAYGROUND

Winter Park's newest playground includes a climbing wall, slide, and more. The playground features padded artificial turf for safety. This playground is better suited for children ages 5-17 years old. Other attractive features at the Howell Branch Preserve are a fitness trail and an observation deck that overlooks a wetland area. Parking is free and restrooms are available onsite. The Howell Branch Preserve is just one of Winter Park's many playgrounds that allow your little ones to stretch their legs and to burn some energy!
